The patently unlawful order abridges a fundamental tenet of the academy, which is "academic freedom": A raison d'être of higher education at PWIs since their inception in the states in the mid 1600s. Stinky without the Brain stole a page from a worn playbook written by Ron DeSantis, with little or no pushback from Florida based HBCUs like Bethune-Cookman University, Edward Waters University, Florida A&M University and Florida Memorial University. Well-fed, well-heeled, not on welfare; fat, sleek, and comfortable Black PhDs plying their trade in the hallowed halls of the academy, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, apparently did not get the memo, however. They were too busy supping greedily at the slop trough of white liberal guilt to lift their professionally coiffed locks, wigs, or weaves, lips glistening with the scrapes from the trough, to consider the peril their apathy had wrought, when they were not too busy going along to get along. The attack on D.E.I. was the predicate setting the legal framework to finally go after one of the most revered institutions in the Black community right next to the Black church: Historically Black Colleges and Universities [HBCUs]. Being conciliatory, inviting, adopting wedge issues that detract from our primary agenda, has yielded our community nothing but one "L' after the other, though. It is time for a retrenchment. For conscious Black folks to call it like they see it with respect to race traitors "selling out" (an old sharecropper term, which means to sell your services back to an unscrupulous white land owner for often a pittance) our community for a thirty second hit on MSNBC or CNN currying favor to try and land their own spot. Contrary Black folks love to say we are not monolithic to rationalize their own craving for acceptance, adoration, and affirmation from whitey. And look where that has gotten us. One of the biggest toms in the House, Byron Donalds only got a pat on the head for all his industrial-strength shilling. Tim Scott did not even get that. But I guess the intimate favors of an ofay woman was a superior (no pun intended) consolation prize. Even the worst among us cannot even band together in jails and prisons to push back effectively against the Hispanic and white gangs. There is something pathological about our unwillingness to confront our reckless quest to speak in a hundred different voices, like the tower of Babel, babbling nonsensically 'bout an existential threat to our agency in this country. Too many Black folks thinking naïvely that it is business as usual, others not giving af, and most just trying to go along to get along. I have seen this movie before, though. I was around (albeit a little boy) when Medgar Evers, Malcolm X, and Martin Luther King, Jr. were assassinated. We have been foisted back into those dark times. Black folks who lack the hindsight of experience cannot conceptualize the overt hostility we confronted daily back in the day. And that was only during my lifetime beginning in the 1960s. But all these measures: unlawfully shuttering USAIDS, now the Department of Education (the biggest funder of HCBUs and primary enforcer of Titles VII and IX), illegally terminating federal workers protected by contract, all serve one purpose. And that purpose is to repeal the Reconstruction Amendments, which are the 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments to the United States Constitution. They were ratified between 1865 and 1870. All the tough talking, militant, keyboard warriors asking yourself what you would have done if you were enslaved like your great great great grandparents or oppressed like 'em in the aftermath of Reconstruction are soon about to find out. Meanwhile, I will be stocking up on magnum loads for my weapons, training and exercising even more than I already do, while making sure my modest, little lakefront "woodshed" is secure when the shit hits the fan. I strongly suggest that conscious folks reading this do the same because ain't none of this shit is normal in a "democratic" republic as large and as sophisticated as the United States.
