Biography ...

Dennis Shipman is currently Chief Ethnographer & Consulting Officer for Applied Anthropologics, Inc.. Dennis has an eclectic background punctuated by world travel that includes a brief stint with la Légion étrangère. He was born on New York’s Long Island. Dennis never graduated from high school. Westbury public school district issued him one of the state’s first “Letter of Completion.” Basically, it stated that he had completed 12 years of high school, but was deficient or, more accurately, short enough credit hours to be formally graduated.
While living in Trenton, New Jersey, he was told by a Navy recruiter that his scores on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery [ASVTB] were so high he could easily pass his GED. One never to disappoint, he took the walk-in examination given at Mercer County Community College without any preparation and was granted a General Equivalency Diploma (GED) shortly thereafter by the New Jersey Department of Education.
A true renaissance man, Dennis is an anthropologist, ordained minister, a musician, a martial artist, broadcaster, and raconteur. He received his Associate in Arts in Liberal Arts from the State University of New York, a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary studies from the same college, Master of Science in Multidisciplinary studies from Buffalo State College and has plans to resume work on his doctoral dissertation. Dennis is also an attorney applicant with Calbar Law Office Study Program (LOSP).
He has studied in Athens, Greece at the College of Southeastern Europe while working as a bodyguard to several Greek dignitaries. Dennis hosted an acclaimed radio show in the Greater New York City Metropolitan region; and professionally played baritone saxophone and flute for a Salsa band. His pieces have been published in Essence, NYC IMC, and The Village Voice to name a few. Newsday did a profile on him for a community service project that he implemented in Queens Borough.
An avid athlete, Dennis has practiced martial arts most of his adult life, and received a black belt in the renowned Vee Arnis Jitsu system of jujitsu from the late, great Grandmaster to the Masters Professor Florendo Malcruz Visitacion. Believing that true spirituality cannot be separated from one’s secular interests, Dennis was ordained by Servant House Evangelistic Ministries.
Dennis formed East New York Holdings, Limited to structure his vocational and advocational interests into one viable corporate entity. East New York Management is the artistic expression of those interests and encapsulates his musical, multimedia, and artistic management concerns. Applied Anthropologics, Inc., is the scientific exposition of his training as a social and behavioral scientist. It is also an applied laboratory for his UX/ethnography consultancy.
Dennis holds an enviable number of memberships in numerous professional, fraternal, religious, and social organizations and volunteers with Baltimore City as well as Prince Georges County Office of Emergency Services Civilian Emergency Response Team (CERT). Dennis is single, has a house on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, a 12-year-old son, and resides in the Greater Philadelphia Metropolitan region.
